Goal

To handle the problem that nobody can walk their dogs in their busy time. Meanwhile, someone nearby who have spare time can earn extra money by walking others' dogs.

Preliminary Study

Before we set the scope for this project, We decided to interview people who have pets and explore the pain point. And what kind of situations they usually meet. With three interviewers all talking about the timeless of walking dogs, it occurs us to develop an application that can connect pet owners and full-time people.

In this case, the application need two main functions and focus on two user groups:

  • One is for dog owners

  • The other is for the person who walks dogs.

Wishlist Functions

We designed more features than those we had time to implement. We completed the whole system, it would also have features below alongside with the core function we demonstrated in the prototype:

  • Represent different scenes in the Home page for dog owners and walking person: dog owners can locate and find available person to ask for walking dogs; the walking people verify their own information, and choose proper dogs to walk.

  • The software also has "information" and "forum" layout, providing users with a pet-related community;

  • Fluid swap back and forth among different roles of users by allowing the user to click on information they want.

Key finding

  • As a psychology student, interpreting the users' results with the psychological perspective.When viewing the design space as an individual designer, between users—this implies the need for guiding principles or postures towards this space.

  • As a designer, I made prototypes. Now I seek to promote awareness of one’s self and the goals of the design process, communication between all stakeholders and user systems, and a desire for rigorous failure analysis at all stages in the design process.

My contribution

  • I used the perspective of psychology to analyze the current problems and an overriding empathy for all constituents in the design space, such as for deeper understanding of cognitive science behind some adopting pets' behaviors and design methods.

  • Such experience inspired me to explore further in human behaviors and emotions during the using application with the perspective of psychology!
